If you’re looking for an entry into reading poetry, this collection is one I’d recommend! I found reading it fun and engaging and accessible - and that isn’t to say that seasoned poetry readers won’t love this too, the reviews I’ve seen from poets I admire (looking at you, Shastra Deo!) about this one have also been dazzling!
Many of the early poems in the collection have a space setting, and thematically many also reckon with queer identity. I enjoyed those that touched on pop culture and things like dating apps (if you enjoyed Thuy On’s TURBULENCE these poems will also resonate well), and the standout for me was THE BIRTHING SUITE. It was one that went incredibly deep with the emotions it calls on, and was told in a series of dated entries across 20 or so pages. It felt like there was plot built into this series of entries and it was just breathtaking in its simplicity and scope all at once. It’s the poem from the collection that I keep thinking about after finishing and was so moved by.
