Lost Souls by Lisa Jackson

3.0

This story follows a protagonist by the name of Kristi Bentz. The daughter of a cop, aspiring true crime writer and amateur detective. Our heroine sets out to enroll at a university where four missing girls with troubled pasts are thought to be victims of an underground vampire cult on campus but many including their families assume they're just runaways.
This book was a crazy ride. It was suspenseful, creepy and packed with action. Somehow I always ended up picking up this book during the night which made the reading experience more spooky for me. The setting was depicted well; it was in a way that didn’t bombard the reader with heaps of unnecessary detail nor did I have to struggle with figuring out what the places could look or feel like. I did, however find some parts to be too explicit and could've done without them. It was just unnecessary. That’s why I docked two stars off. This is my first time reading Lisa Jackson's work so I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of writing style and content. I also noticed a lot of repetition which annoyed me but I didn't focus too much on it. The characters were interesting, some more compelling than others. I'm still deciding if I like Kristi or not. Her determination and passion for justice is admirable but man, it was frustrating whenever she put herself in harm’s way and not inform Jay McKnight her whereabouts or plans. Overall, a very creepy read.
