Queenie & the Krakens by Aleera Anaya Ceres
4.0

a great example of a strong FMC

Kicka** afro-latina (I think) female lead. Magic motorcycles. Mermen bad boys. I love the openness of the paranormal. They’re not a secret. Queenie is a baddie who saves herself. I love that for her. The guys all have issues and Queenie gives them what they each need but honestly they all need therapy.

I didn’t particularly care for the reference of “being close as brothers” when they have a sexual relationship. I’m assuming because those two would still be brothers whether the sexual relationship was there or not. I wish the friendship between Queenie and Lourdes was presented more genuine and Lourdes not to be as self absorbed and desperate in the beginning but I’m glad we see that it was more towards the end of the book. To me there’s not too much paranormal activity. More so a book set in a paranormal world. Queenie and Delfin’s relationship was a little forced. They could’ve remained good friends. Also wish there was an epilogue.

At this point, Queenie shouldn’t have anymore braids in her hair as much as they’ve been yanked.

The story overall was a strong 3 for me but Queenie being so strong pushed it to a 4.
