I have no idea why it took me so long to finish this book, the chapters are short, the story moves pretty fast and has a compelling mystery at its core. I loved learning about the march and intertidal zones. But wow did the loneliness of Kya just mess me up. What a tragic character. Cannot recommend to anyone with fear of abandonment or general struggles with loneliness. Unless the bird content will help you through it, it wasn't really enough for me in the end.
Graphic: Child abuse, Domestic abuse, Physical abuse, Toxic relationship, Grief, Death of parent, Abandonment, and Sexual harassment
Moderate: Racism and Murder
Minor: Infertility
