Very average. Definitely better than the second one. I liked dual pov, it's nice not having to listen to Tris all the time.

Worldbuilding makes no sense, science behind it makes no scenes. First of all "murder gene", seriously that's the best tittle you could come up with? There's a reason inbreeding isn't good, because you're not bringing new pool of genes to pick and choose from to create better offsprings. And you expect to somehow magically "heal genetically damaged" by locking them in a city. Also you put bunch of "damaged" people together without any sort of guidance and expect them not to turn to chaos?? But what can you expect from generic YA dystopia, I don't know why I'm still surprised by it after so many pages.

Tris and Four actually communicated, I'm so happy because that's the only time they're interesting. There was a moment when they were angry and jealous of each other but that got resolved super quickly, so I wasn't annoyed that much.
I keep forgetting that Four is 18 years old and that's why he's stupid. Apparently he likes Tris because she is "tiny and fragile", like his ego. And she likes him because he's big and strong. But they choose each other, over and over again, even though everything they went through showed they don't work well together. But they keep choosing each other and that somehow makes it okay.

Tris should've died from the "death serum" (another very creative name) and not from a bullet. But she died at the end so I'll let it pass. Ending was good actually. Everything wrapped up nicely, they all slowly moved on, established new order in the city, the usual.

All in all, there's reason no one talk about this series anymore. It's just not memorable, it got lost between so many others like it. It lacked a message, critique of our society as it is. There was some attempt, but it wasn't good.
