The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
5.0
my friends either loved or hated this book for various reasons. personally, i loved this book. many say that this should’ve been written in the lisbon sisters’ perspective, but i think the horrible ignorance of the boys make the story of the girls so alluring. the fact that it was narrated by boys makes the whole plot ambiguous, as we the readers along with the community in the novel cannot make sense of the situation in itself. i think the prose was beautifully written as its narration from men does exactly what it’s meant to do, which is emphasize its obvious flaws.
“You’re not even old enough to know how bad life gets.”
“Obviously doctor, you’ve never been a thirteen year old girl.”
