Angels in America by Tony Kushner

5.0

Strange plot, authentic dialogue, and evocative ideas. The whole time you're thinking "This is a little weird." But it makes sense. The strangeness works well and no amount of strangeness takes away from the reality at its core: the lives, deaths, and loves of people at the height of the AIDS crisis, two couples in particular, and the infamous Roy Cohn. It's no wonder it's a major staple in late 20th century American storytelling on paper, onstage, and onscreen. More people need to read it to understand, even through something that's half fantasy, our history - the intersectionality of religions, lifestyles, gender, and political beliefs.
