Thrown to the Wolves by Charlie Adhara

5.0

Thrown to the Wolves is part 3 of the Big Bad Wolf series; however, it reads like part 2 of the “Meet the Family” episode. The last installment brought Oliver to Jagger Falls Maryland to meet Cooper’s family and to rifle through all the emotional shit that fell out of his firmly packed suitcases. This installment has Cooper traveling to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to meet the Park pack. Oliver’s paternal grandfather Joe, the alpha of the pack has died, and Oliver needs to return to pay his respects. Up until now, Cooper has been the one with his emotional baggage and dysfunction fully on display. It was clear Park had his fair share; but he was a more enigmatic character, shrouded in mystery. Not so once he returns to the family seat. His luggage explodes, and boy is he fucked up!! Not all of it has to do with being a werewolf either.

Of course, wherever Park and Cooper go; murder and mayhem are not following far behind. Or more specifically murder and mayhem usually manage to show up before they get there and continue their reign of terror until the duo eventually solve the mystery, the crime and the day. Which they do after lots of twists involving multiple well-developed suspects and a red herring or two. The questionable demise of Alpha Joe may be tied to a developing seditious pack war complicated by the scientist Dr. Emily Freeman running around studying the local wolves with remarkably human behavior patterns. As if all this isn’t bad enough; Oliver brings home…a HUMAN. Surprise!!! (Also human with a cat; and I have to say; the Park Werewolves are surprisingly prejudicial about another “animal species”! (No worries, no harm comes to Boot Scootin’ Boogie!)

As usual; great character development and growth, a heart warming realistic (well Werewolf aside) romance between 2 flawed, messed up and truly lovable characters with a palpable connection. Humor and snappy engaging dialogue and an interesting plot
