The beginning of this book read like a “Throne of Glass” copy and I had a hard time getting past the similarities. While it was still a good read, it felt very trope-heavy. The second half was better and brought more unique elements, i.e introduction of vampires. I still couldn’t quite shake the familiarity though. The last section of the book was the best by far. There was a lot of twists that I didn’t see coming and I felt like it tee’d up well for the next book. No crazy cliff hanger but enough of what to be like “wait …what”. I wish I could have reread (relistened) the last 2 hours but my hold was up 🤷🏻‍♀️
