The Bomber Mafia: A Dream, a Temptation, and the Longest Night of the Second World War by Malcolm Gladwell

challenging informative reflective sad fast-paced

4.5

One of the best audiobook listening experiences I’ve had. We’re talking background mood music, voice recordings of interviews, actual radio broadcasts from the time period… so well produced! ⁣

This was an audiobook first and then they made a print book and it really shows when you listen, it’s so well done! It’s about 5 hours long and so worth the listen! It even has a free digital listening guide that you can pull up online to see pictures and read even more. So good!⁣

“All war is absurd. For thousands of years human beings have chosen to settle their differences obliterating each other. And when we are not obliterating each other, we spend an enormous amount of time and attention coming up with better ways to obliterate each other the next time around. It’s all a little strange if you think about it.” ⁣

THE BOMBER MAFIA was chuck-full of history and people I didn’t know about before. So many passages got bookmarked. Malcom Gladwell is just so crazy good at putting information together in a way that makes you think. I made my husband listen to it right after me and it was a huge hit for him too.
