Love in the City by Jen Morris

4.0

This book was impossibly adorable. It almost felt like a coming of age novel, only the age is 30 LOL. Alex gets drunk one night and basically uproots her entire life and flips it upside down. She wasn't entirely happy with her life anyway, so she just runs with it. Upon moving to NYC, Alex embarks on this amazing journey of self discovery and finds plenty of love and friendship along the way. This book was more well rounded than I anticipated. While it does have friendship and steamy relationships and plenty of love, it's also largely about Alex finding herself and growing in to the person that she's meant to be all along, without anyone, especially her family, holding her back. I really really loved the chemistry between Alex and Michael. It was very much a delicious slow burn. When the big *thing* happened, even though I predicted it happening, I was absolutely floored. I won't give it away, but it took me a few days to get back in to it because I was so mad about the whole thing! I'm glad I came back though because clearly I was mad for no reason. While I love to read about real life sometimes, if this *thing* played out how I thought it was going to, my heart would've been completely broken. Overall, this happily ever after ended pretty happily. I love this book because Alex was able to find not only herself, but also a career, friends, and love all while not sacrificing herself and her hopes and dreams. I love that this book managed to be funny, sweet, sexy, steamy, romantic, and just feel good all around. This was a good read for sure. I'm interested to see how the rest of this series goes.
