Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

This book contains details of death, blood, murder, sacrifice, the effects of grief and loss and theft. If a sensitive reader this book may not be for you.

I am GLOWING. This book was amazing! I loved every scene! I laughed, I cried, I soppy-smiled and I fell in love with the characters. (The reading attachment issues have landed).

Never did I think I would love a book so darn much!

My favourite character is definitely Julian. He's quirky, chatty, optimistic, a jokester (is that even a word?) and a caring person when he wants to be. He was the whole light of the story and I loved it!
The one scene that made me love him completely was when Yadriel was like "I'm trans"... And Julian, I can picture him just glancing at Yadriel with a look of 'you interrupted me to tell me that', as he just said "oh, okay" and kept chatting about whatever. He is an ICON.

The whole meaning of the story was beautiful too. Yadriel, the main character, is trans but is finding it difficult to get his family to understand him. The only person who truly did was his mother but she passed away. Yea, he has Maritza and he's grateful for that, but it would mean the world to him if his father could at least try to understand him.
There were some scenes with maybe misgendering and people telling Yadriel that he couldn't be a REAL brujo that really angered me. I was like "um excuse meeee, Yadriel is his own damned person and he can choose who he wants to be. So move along please."

Aiden Thomas has written a wonderful book with a powerful message and likeable characters. I loved learning about this world and its traditions. It was so interesting!
I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of Aiden Thomas's work! This book has set high expectations!

Cemetery Boys is a book that will grab your heart and never let it go. Prepare to cry.
