The Shade of the Moon by Susan Beth Pfeffer

It was a different premise from the rest of the series. instead of focusing solely on the day to day survival it focused on the setting up of a new society and criticizing the system in which the poor are actively treated as subhuman, and the rich are given the best of everything. The later find this system wonderfully acceptable without question and the struggles of those, like Jon, who see both sides first hand and have to decide if they can fight for a better life for all. While Jon was pretty despicable as far as people go early on, the positions he finds himself in change him for the better. I still don't understand the ridiculous unrealistic love story and I think it brings the whole story down but otherwise this is an interesting read. I'm glad I decided to read the series in it's entirety.
