A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab
5.0

How do you create a villain that you despise so much yet still have so much empathy for him? That is part of the brilliance of V.E. Schwab. I think Holland more than any other character will stay with me long after having finished this novel. I really feel he was a product of his circumstances and environment. You could feel his underlying longing for warmth and kindness yet it was never meant to be for him. At least he found redemption and inner peace by the end.

Of course all the other main characters Kell, Rhy, Lila, and Alucard were brilliantly brought to life on the pages. Each of their stories was interesting and filled with a roller coaster of emotions. When I read a book that has a good story, it is enjoyable but what separates the good from the great are the characters. Are they believable? Do I share in their triumphs and their failures? Am I emotionally invested, do I care? In this case the answer is a resounding yes. The ending was bittersweet but what a ride it was while it lasted.

If you haven't read the series go now and pick up a copy. Regardless of the genre types you may like, you will enjoy this series.

I could definitely see this series being made into movies, and I look forward to future works from V.E. Schwab.
