First in Riordan's new series, The Heroes of Olympus, it takes up the tail end of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
In 2013, The Lost Hero won the Evergreen Teen Book Award; in 2011, it won the West Australian Young Readers' Book Award for Older Readers; and, in 2010, it was nominated for the Goodreads Choice Award for Favorite Book, Young Adult Fantasy.
My Take
The Lost Hero takes up where Percy Jackson and the Olympians left off, keeping all the characters and Camp Half Blood. The ending had an interesting twist when we discover the truth behind Jason's amnesia and how it relates to Percy's disappearance. We are oh so definitely living in interesting times…
The Story
Percy has disappeared and Annabeth is desperately searching for him when she must take a little side trip to rescue a new trio of demi-gods: Jason, Piper, and Leo. Somehow they'd managed to escape the attention of the bad guys…until now.
They soon learn that this rescue only lands them into a hotter pot.
It's yet another "chapter" in the war with a newly emerging enemy, and the three must rescue Hera from her imprisonment to avert the destruction of mankind. A task made more difficult due to Jason's amnesia and the kidnapping of Piper's father.
The Cover and Title
Loved the cover! Jason, Piper, and Leo are riding on Festus' back, the bronze dragon which Leo captured, repaired, and then improved with wings just in time for the start of their quest.
The title is about Percy, The Lost Hero.
