Unsurprisingly, this is another five-star read for me. It’s so unlike Kuang’s other books, and yet so gripping. It’s a meta / satirical commentary on racism and the publishing industry, with morally ambiguous characters left, right and centre. This is probably one of the few books (and authors) who can write compelling POVs from deliberately unlikeable characters.
