Shadow Scale by Rachel Hartman

Fantastic conclusion to this awesome series.

I must warn you, it's a bit slow, especially the first 200 pages drag a little because there is so much world building. Don't get me wrong, the world building in these novels is excellent but it's also a lot of information that does not drive the plot forward. Seraphina's search for the other ityasaari just takes her from one place to another where she find's another half-dragon and then moves on to the next place. It works too smoothly and while it's nice getting to know all the different countries of the South Lands and their specific customs I wanted the story to move forward. Until
SpoilerJannoula appears. That woman gave me shivers. Her back story is so interesting and ties everything together so well in the end.
. I did like getting to know all the new half-dragons but there were a lot of them. It was easy to tell them apart but I think the story could've been compressed by having fewer characters. And I missed Lars, he was only in a handful of scenes.

The middle part and the ending were great. I loved when they visited
SpoilerLab 4 and we got to spend some time with the quigs, they're hilarious.
Something else I immensely enjoyed was how the handled the whole Seraphina-Kiggs-Glisselda situation. First of all I was really surprised to learn
Spoilerthat Selda liked Phina like that but it made so much sense
and secondly it was great how unconventionally the problem was solved
SpoilerKiggs and Selda marrying "for show"
.
In the end everything just made sense, the puzzle pieces clicked together and no loose ends were left.

Well worth the year long wait.
