New Growth by Taahesi B. Williams

4.5

I really enjoyed this ARC! A signature in her books is MMCs who are obsessed with their women, and that held true here—El was completely devoted to Ellie. I loved how grief was woven into the story, especially using the stages of hair to reflect Ellie’s emotional growth—chef’s kiss. The first half moved quickly after her father’s passing, then jumped two months, then two years, with the rest leading up to the expo. The time jumps felt a bit uneven, especially given how fast the relationship deepened in just two to five months. I also struggled a little wit  the lack of resolution with certain characters. Ellie’s silence toward Jonathan and Ryan felt a bit drawn out and I expected her to address Hope’s antics much sooner. Selfishly, I can admit I wanted her to confront them earlier than she did so I could jump in and cuss them out for her 😂
