Girly Drinks: A World History of Women and Alcohol by Mallory O'Meara

funny informative inspiring medium-paced

4.0

I really enjoyed this book. I learned so much from it about the history of women and alcohol - who knew that women had been so heavily involved in the production of alcohol for thousands of years!? I also thought it was structured really well and gave a really wide-reaching overview of the history of alcohol across time and across the world, as well as 'zooming in' on individual women almost as case studies. I'm sure it's a starter pack and that there's loads more to learn that's beyond the scope of the book but it definitely opened my eyes. Plus, it was well written - light-hearted, funny and entertaining whilst also being very informative. I listened to this on audio and it worked really well for me because each chapter was very podcast-like.
