Voidbreaker by David Dalglish
3.0
For context I rated books 1 and 2 a 4.75 and I honestly loved them and had a great time with them.
In many ways I, unfortunately, feel like this book fell flat. The pacing was all over the freaking place, which in turn reduced my engagement and enjoyment. Also, the general chain of events that occurred in this book did not feel cohesive and just didn't really make much sense. I feel like the author focused more on where the story was going and less on how it got there. The magic system in this series has always been pretty fast and loose, which I typically don't mind, but I feel like this one took that to the next level and really just threw caution to the wind. Which is fine, but sometimes I felt like something would happen and I would ask myself why or how that happened and the only answer I could think of was that the plot needed it to.
Overall, I am very glad to have read this trilogy because I had a ton of fun with books one and two and I really feel like this is a solid underrated fantasy trilogy and world, but I do feel like this book fell flat in a lot of ways for me.
