The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin

5.0

It's more like a 4.75 because there are like two things that, for me, if done slightly differently could have been better BUT this book is amazing. i can't wait for the second one, because i love every single character. they're so deep yet really fun and the style of writing is really really good
i'd recommend to read it even just to remind yourself why to be racist - misogynistic - homophobic is not good.
and of course to fall in love with new york

NOW TO THE SPOILERY PART !!

i feel like the deus ex machina of veneza becoming new jersey is a little too convenient for the way the plot had developed until that moment (really slowly)
plus i think that if we had a few more time with new york himself we could have been more attached to him than i find myself being at the end of the book
