im giving this one a 2.5 because of the way the leads act. in the beginning 2/3 of the story Beau isn't a jackass, but in the last 1/3 he just keeps telling Carissa to "obey" and "behave herself." I kept expecting him to say 'siiiiiit. sit. staaaaay. stay. good girl.' I don't read these for historical accuracy, and it annoys me when the lead male (whom we're supposed to sigh over) treats the heroine like a dog. though she was no better. somewhere in the last 1/3 Carissa lost her spine and spent the last part of the book apologizing and trying to get her husband to listen to her by whining. she got annoying and he turned into an ass. not sure what happened, because they were quite interesting in the beginning.
