Devious Obsession by S. Massery
3.0

First I will say that I read these books out of order. I say that because I started with book three not knowing it was a series and then I read book one so it really helped that I liked the characters already in book one. I gave 4 stars for both books. Naturally I was very interested in Steele's story even though his character felt a little creepy. And Ashton was a new character so I didn't know anything about her.

That being said, Steele is creepy in this book. Devious Obsession is my least favorite of the series for several reasons. First, I am now three books into this series and all the time I was reading book two I felt like Ms. Massery had a template and just changed names and talents for the girl's characters (all had stalkers besides their boyfriends) and names and sexual kinks for the boy's characters. Second, and mostly, because I didn't get the warm and fuzzy with these two characters at all.

Steele and Ashton were both very hard to like, always pushing the envelope really hard. I didn't like that on more than one occasion Steele drugged Ashton and she didn't do anything about it. Sexual kink is one thing, and I don't have triggers per se, but drugging someone and them not being mad or making it stop is just not realistic.

The writing was good and I did make it through the book and didn't DNF it, but it took me three days to read because I wasn't that interested in finishing it, so I can't justify more than 3 stars.
