The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro

5.0

"What is pertinent is the calmness of beauty, its sense of restraint. It is as though the land knows of its own beauty, its own greatness, and feels no need to shout it.”

This quote from the same book perfectly encapsulates the narrative. It was slow, almost seemingly uneventful, but at the same time beautiful and heartbreaking. Most of the parts that hit home to me weren't explicitly told in the book, Ishiguro managed to send the message across even in the parts he chose not to elaborate.
