The Claw of the Conciliator by Gene Wolfe

3.0

Not as good as Shadow of the Torturer, in my eyes. I did like the alzabo scene, and the cave men, and the man holed up in the house. But the fountain and the witch sections felt rushed, and I really don't understand the necessity of that boring 20-page mythos and 10-page prose version of their play. Another thing I didn't like was how Severian reunited with the band in almost exactly the same way he met up with them again at the end of shadow of the torturer. I have to say at this point I'm at a crossroads, where I don't know if I should even bother with books 3 and 4, because while I enjoyed Shadow of the Torturer, Claw of the Conciliator did not impress me, barring a few select chapters.
