Smoke and Mirrors
by Barbara Michaels
As a political thriller with a thin romantic plot this was a slick and entertaining read. As a period piece, with a female politician in the late 80s, and a younger than normal Michael's heroine finding her place in the world and working her way towards what she thinks of "woman's liberation" it was fascinating. I totally see why other readers call it dated, and it is. it was written in the 80s! By a woman born in the 20s! The gender and racial politics are awkward and uncomfortable but on the road to something better, if we can keep that something better.
