Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers

3.5

The main character's dad was really tough for me. He's former military and is emotionally and verbally abusive, touting the Protestant work ethic, combined with talented tenth expectations for Black people in the US. Listening to the audiobook, I found myself frequently interjecting with "f*** off, dad," and "who asked you, dad?"

However, the main character grew and developed in relationship to her dad in a way that was fulfilling.
