This was a book that had lived on my TBR for years, but I have no actual idea where or when I found it. I was hopeful for a cozy type fantasy... unfortunately, this fell a little flat for me.
The premise is that there is a magically cursed woods next to a kingdom. The kingdom is protected, due to the magic of the crown... until it's not. Then our heroes must brave the wild unknown to find a way to save their kingdom.
Immediately, I was surprised at how much horror was interwoven into the plot. I had imagined a fairytale-inspired story that was quaint, but this was gruesome -far more than even traditional fairy tales.
Overall, the story was fine. It was an easy and fast read. It just didn't have anything that made it more than "meh" to me.
