Not quite as good as the first book in this series, which can be enjoyed fully on its own, apart from the Star Wars canon, but I still enjoyed it. 
The dual timelines show Thrawn’s relationship both with Anakin upon their first meeting and with Darth Vader as rivals and reluctant allies.
