Hearts in Atlantis
by Stephen King
This was the last King book that was floating around out there that I hadn’t read yet. The first story was great (and long - comprising more than half the total volume). The usual King with ties to The Dark Tower series; however, the next three shorter interconnected stories were rambling and not the best. Blind Willie started to ramp up then fizzled with an abrupt ending. The title story was longer but boring. The Vietnam flashback piece was ineffective and the last tiny short story trying to tie them all together just didn’t get it done. Overall since the first “story” was really a stand-alone novel and was really good, I’ve given the “good but not great” star-rating. Otherwise, I love King. It’s strange to have read his entire canon. Luckily he continues to write.
