Slow Down: The Degrowth Manifesto
by Kōhei Saitō
informative
slow-paced
Not super fun to read, kind of dry. I also found the start to be a lot of catastrophizing that from my knowledge of ecology and climate is not entirely convincing and I don’t think necessary. I also am not sure why it is so important that this has to come from Marx rather than his additions to it. I did appreciate though the critique of “climate Maoism” aka authoritarianism and the move towards some level of worker led/citizen-led organization, but I find it deeply optimistic to believe that this will naturally lead to better outcomes in a similar way to believing the market will magically do that. I thus ended up with a lot of remaining questions but appreciated the examples at the end that makes some of these ideas more concrete.
