Having seen the film before, it was really interesting to learn how much of a direct page to screen adaptation it was. Many of the scenes in the book were recreated near identically in the film.
Its a shame I wasn't able to read the book without full context as the foreshadowing and suggestive dreams are done really well and it would have been very engaging to try and puzzle them out.
The book is 'of its time' in a number of ways- it doesn't feel overtly hostile to minority groups, just a bit insensitive in the terminology it uses.
Rosemary is a lockable heroine- she does a good job of questioning the situation around her without being entirely conspiratorial (until the end, and she is entirely correct). I think she consistently behaves in ways that make sense for the character- even her resignation to be a mother to her child in the final chapter makes total sense.
Overall very solid and a really influential piece of horror literature.
