Run, don't walk, and pick this book up now.
How this is a debit I just don't know. It's incredibly crafted, intricately woven together to create a modern day masterpiece.
I LOVED this. It made me laugh, cry, feel grief and joy along with the characters, and fall in love.
It's a sad story. Family loss, war, refugees fleeing and leaving loved ones behind. It hits REAL hard, but it's an easy and super engaging read.
I did think the bigger events towards the end were rushed, but I'm also glad they weren't dwelled on too much. I suppose there's a lot of literary insight about war we could mention here, but I think I'll leave this here.
TW: aside from all the fairly obvious ones you'd expect in a book about war and refugee life, have to mention the violence against animals. Not animal cruelty, but violence.
