Bad Blood
by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
holy fucking sh!t. jennifer has outdone herself with this one. the plot twists in this one were IT. love proclamation from broody love interest? stop i fear it's too heartwarming.
it pissed me off so bad that they found them right after cassie's mom was stabbed but I understand it's a crucial plot point for her.
the director of the FBI being a part of the master's is so crazy but actually makes so much sense because of everything that happened with nightshade being killed and laurel being in custody. someone give agent sterling a BREAK. that woman has been tortured, kidnapped, had her best friend killed, and now her dad is a serial murderer that she had to kill. that woman is STRONG (also go off mister director briggs).
"I love you. Today, tomorrow, covered in blood, haunted and waking up in the middle of the night screaming—I love you, Cassie, and I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere." this is the toned down love proclamation we needed and wanted. these two understand each other like no one else will.
i really wanted more lia backstory and jennifer delivered. i love the complexity of lia and she's such a beautifully written character. when michael was trying to push everyone away at the beginning when celine had gone missing and he says something like "im going to tell you i love you and you're going to be able to see if I'm lying or not" and she leaves the room because she can't handle it, was so on point because she is terrified of letting people get close to her. my heart literally broke when i read that. the cult thing background makes so much sense.
the wrap up of this series was beautiful. ending felt rushed once again honestly but what can you really do. i will hold the naturals near a dear to my heart always.
