Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams
by Matthew Walker
Walker presents so much fascinating information in surprisingly engaging prose for an academic. He has the credentials and backing data to make his case for the importance of sleep and the way sleep works. His book left me with two thoughts: 1. Wow sleep is so important in so many ways!. 2. Wow if I ever miss my perfect sleep even one night I'm doomed. It makes me wonder whether his well intentioned message will fall on deaf ears because it's impossible to achieve and if one fails to achieve it they're doomed... For an example of the extreme, if you must drink alcohol, even one drink, drink in the morning, never in late afternoon or evening. This is simply not going to happen for over half of the world's population.
