The Favorite Daughter by Allen Say

4.0

This is a great book for sharing the mixed-race experience and is based on Allen Say and his daughter's personal history. HIs daughter has blonde hair, but Japanese features. At school some students began teasing her and a teacher is mispronouncing her name so she wants a name that is not so difficult or unusual. She picks Michelle. Along the way, she and her father find ways to appreciate her Japanese culture along with her American way of life. I love that it includes a few actual photos.
