The Lady's Champion by Marie Lipscomb

4.0

4.5 stars! This was such a fabulous read. Brandon and Natalie's chemistry is great, the worldbuilding is detailed and colourful and I absolutely loved the diversity of the cast. Brandon is an aging, out of shape former champion (a warrior and member of The Champion’s Guild, a sort of medieval WWE but with real swordfights and armour) who thinks his best days are behind him, he's basically a big cuddly fighting bear. Natalie is a plus-sized, anxious, lady of the manor who fangirls on him hard and just wants the best for everyone. And omg, the supporting characters - I can't wait for Genevieve and Jenny's story.
Personal preference but I would have liked this to be dual POV rather than just Nat's side, and a couple of times I felt the decisions the characters made were a little suspect:
Nat sending every single guard away at the beginning, and Brandon disappearing to take on the bandits alone near the end.
But I still loved it and can't wait for the next one.
Note that it technically ends with an HFN as it's an ongoing series, although it is a lovely ending nonetheless.
The bad guy hasn't got his comeuppance yet
and no doubt things will happen to separate & test our couple before the final HEA but that's fine with me because woohoo more Brandon :-)
100% would recommend.
