i have to admit, i wasn’t the biggest fan of this book. despite this, i really loved the idea of the book and what it was trying to convey.

maali is a complex character, to say the least but then again who in this book isn’t? in the first few moons you come to believe he likes to gamble and party and yes, cheat on dd. i thought those things about him too, but i love characters who aren’t goody two-shoes so i didn’t mind at all. the last two moons though? when you find out how he dies? damn. that hit hard. he was willing to stand up to stanley in his last moments, and even though it got him killed, i have to think that was worth something. that he cared more for his values and dd than he did for bribery, every though in the first few moons he is shown to be like that. he stands up for so much more. I HATE STANLEY

im not going to speak on the politics as it completely flew over my head.

jaki deserved to be happy. she left nothing unturned and undiscovered, and even though she was in mortal danger quite a few times, she still kept looking for maali. dd breaking down was so sad. i loved scenes with the two of them.

speaking of dd, him and maali don’t exactly have a putting this nicely healthy relationship. i think it would’ve worked out in the end though, but the end for one came too soon. i feel sad knowing that dd is with someone else now, but life must go on. maali did what he did because in his heart he wanted everyone to be free and safe, and though it got him killed, his values will always stay with everyone who knew him.

like i mentioned, i didn’t exactly like this book, but appreciated what it strived after, what it wanted to show the readers. i found it a bit dull and dragged-on at times but maybe that’s just because i have a short attention span. either way, it’s on the neutral ground for me.
