The Halloween Moon by Joseph Fink

3.0

I loved the focus on Halloween and growing up. I think it’s a fun, easy book with creative descriptions. I also think that adults reading the book are criticizing it for something that’s the point of the story- like the parents being jerks. That’s the POINT and honestly, as a kid who loved Halloween, I would’ve liked it especially when my own parents said it was time to stop trick or treating. However, Fink has a very distinct writing style. It works really well with podcasts. It works okay when reading the WtNV book, because it’s an expected style. In a middle grade book, though, it reads as a little stiff and awkward. I’ll recommend it to my students but I’m not sure how well they’ll take to it. Maybe better as an audiobook?
