Bewitching by Alex Flinn
3.0
Three stars is me being nice. Don't get me wrong though, it's not an awful book, it's just a super predictable book jam packed full of wish fulfillment. Bewitching tells the story every geeky teenage girl dreams of - the story where the smart "ugly" girl gets the guy and the gorgeous popular girl suffers. Who didn't daydream about that in high school? It's a little too been there done that.
The author did try to switch things up with flashbacks and the retelling of multiple fairy tales, but that fell flat as well. She kept switching back and forth between olde timey speech and modern speech, which totally didn't work. And many of the stories felt out of place and made the book choppy and slow.
All in all, if you're a 13-year-old girl who wants to read a book about a the nerd beating out the popular girl, then this is the book for you.
