Skins by Audrey Rush
5.0
Utterly repulsive, in the best way!
I cannot recommend Audrey Rush books enough!! I’ve said this a million times, but I’ll say it again, more people need to read Audrey Rush!
As a huge fan of Audrey Rush’s works I could not pass up the opportunity to arc read this book. I even got one of my friends to sign up for the arc as well.
I read the original short story early this year and was absolutely obsessed with Teddy’s depraved story, but this full length re-release is even better! Audrey never misses!
This book is definitely a very tough read and I found myself needing breaks. The women are treated completely as objects and most of the time don’t even have names.
Audrey’s stories always fill me with the most conflicted feelings and this book is no exception. Horror, and disgust are of course the main ones, but also a weird loyalty, especially towards Teddy since he’s the OG. But when reading Chase’s chapters I couldn’t help but feel empathy towards him, although that was crushed rather quickly. The harvest section might be my favorite, probably because I’m a dark romance girly at heart. I ate up the Chase chapters so quick and I might still slightly feel for him in the end lol.
The Farm section terrifies me the most honestly. Also just like with reading Morsel I’m both glad and horrified to be a vegetarian. This entire section made my stomach churn, especially the eyes and baby stuff. I had to take the most breaks with this one.
Little bit of a spoiler here, but I do kinda wish it was shown more about what happened with Pets ears just because I’m curious to know if he made her completely deaf or not (not that this even matters to the story).
I was so excited to see that we got more of the Founder! I couldn’t help but want to know more about his story as soon as he was mentioned in the Skin short story. He is such an interesting character! A true psychotic businessman through and through!
I truly love to hate him.
It’s also interesting how already connected all the characters seem to be outside of the company. “The world is smaller than we realize…” as the Founder has said.
Overall this was a roller coaster of a read and I never knew what to expect next. With each new introduced character came more atrocities that I never would have expected.
P.S the little Kent moments are everything!!
