Katzenjammer by Francesca Zappia

i never write reviews but i finished this in one sitting and that never happens, so i'm gonna talk about it. ive been trying to get back into reading consistently and yeah, this was the perfect book for that. the abstractness of the present mixed with the contrast of cat's memories, and how they slowly started to blend together and fold in on themselves really got me by the end. i really wasn't expecting this story to be so retrospective, but damn, zappia really blew it out of the water. this could have just been a story about everything cat went through in highschool, written out exactly how she recounted her memories, but the addition of the surreal weird abstract plane really helped pulled me in. i don't think many other authors would have approached a story about teenage grief in this kind of way, and if it was written any other way i probably wouldn't have been super interested. i will definitely be taking five to ten business days to process reading this in one night and will absolutely be checking out more of zappia's books!
