5/5 - I knew this was a 5 star not even 50 pages in. Fascinating magic system and flawed, interesting characters. Brutally honest, thought provoking, and heartbreaking (I don’t know why I didn’t expect emotional damage after sword of kaigen). The writing has only improved and I look forward to more from ML Wang!
