I would have given this a 1, but it was exciting and I read it in a little over 24 hours. It also had some interesting twists and turns, as well as the interesting thoughts on good and evil and how they interact.
But it was dark, especially for a book geared for "ages 8 and up" (as it says on the inside cover). It also didn't answer a lot of my questions. The brothers' love for each other was always assumed, but never actually shown. I would have liked more info on what they were before school masters.

Minor: Torture
Torture: so this was mentioned in vrtt ungraphic ways, but it bothered me a lot because they were torturing CHILDREN.
