I was very much looking forward to reading this book and thought it would be a quick read. Instead, I ended up having to force myself to finish it. I enjoyed the gothic style of writing and would loved to have read more of that type of genre in the book. However, the small enjoyable gothic feel was largely overshadowed by the hi-sci-fi explanations of the "magic". Have you ever watched a movie or read a book where someone tried to explain how time travel works? Often times the explanations are convoluted, contradictory, or even down right boring. That's basically how magic gets explained in this book.
