The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

4.5

4.5 stars! Better than the first book, but not as good as the second.

Back with that tripling, babyyyyyy. I don't think it would truly be an authentic review from me if I didn't mention it haha. I've noticed Holly Black over the past two books really get a grip on comedy as well! The small pieces are well-placed and effective. They break up a tense moment or calm a moment after said intensity, and it truly feels organic.

But damn this book is a slow burn! THREE BOOKS for him not to deny her? Jesus. I'm not complaining - at all - because I think it was expertly done! I'm just not used to an actual slow burn when people label a book as one. This was amazing! Additionally, it's really cool to see a writer not only create a villain that is bad and isn't really redeemed by their tragic past, but also a protagonist that is so much worst then them. Yet the first-person narration makes you sympathise for and with the protagonist. REALLY well done. And that ending! Oh my god. It was so good; so heart-warming and satisfying.
