Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

Did not finish book. Stopped at 14%.
Not a bad book, I'm just not vibing with itt. I was more into this really deep, esoteric world-building in middle school.

The characters also seem to swing from deeply spiritual and, again, esoteric language to the phrase "like hell I will" and crude jokes with a jarring lack of transition. There is a way to show irreverent characters that still "fit" in your world. Maybe this language choice makes more sense further in the book or the series, but I'm not really compelled to find out.
