This book especially of the series was a bit of a geography refresher for me--despite all the times I've studied the areas for one class or another or heard about them in the news, most of eastern Europe and southwestern Asia tend to be an unlabeled blob in my mind. I'm also inclined to suspect that the main reason Iskierka is such a little psycho is because she spent the last period of time before she hatched in the middle of war. Wouldn't YOU be looking for a fight if that's all you'd known when you were developing?
