Smoke and Mirrors: Short Fictions and Illusions by Neil Gaiman
4.0
A good collections of stories from Gaiman. A decent amount of variety. Neil definitely flexes his writing abilities with different styles, techniques and subject matter. There are a few stand out stories in the book for me, the last two "Murder Mystery" and "Snow, Glass, Apples" left a lasting impression. Some of the stories, including "We Can Get Them For You Wholesale", remind me of Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits episodes. There is a surprising amount of sexual themes in the book, so you may be put off by it. Many of the themes are very dark, so be prepared for that as well. In some of the stories it seems Gaiman is challenging the reader to look past the usually disturbing subject matter to see what's going on underneath. Definitely not a book for kids. If you aren't bothered by those themes then you should enjoy this collection of short fantasy tales.
