When I first heard of this book and saw its cover, it just looked like a romance novel to me, but omg it was not!!!! This had everything I wanted: politics, incredible slow-burn (and I mean slow burn to the extent that they haven’t even held hands yet), angst and tension. It took me a little to be invested in it, since the world building was quite heavy and intense. I don’t know if this was just my perception, but it felt like nothing happened for the first 70%, but also so much happened. It was just a lot of information on the pole and its hierarchy, which was interesting to me. Definitely shouldn’t be read as a standalone.
